The Hoyo de Monterrey Primaveras Year Of The OX is the cigar with which Habanos SA celebrates the Year of the Ox. The cigar celebrated its debut on January 13 via a virtual event organized by Pacific Cigar Co, the distributor of Habanos SA products in the Asia-Pacific region, and featured Leopoldo Cintra Gonzalez, Vice President Sales of Habanos SA, and Jose Maria Lopez Inchaurbe, Vice President Development for Habanos SA.
The Hoyo de Monterrey Primaveras Year Of The OX is 6 7/12″ (167 mm) long and has a 48 (19.05 mm) ring, a parejo vitola known as Hermosos No. 1. It is the same size as the San Cristobal Mercaderes, an exclusive La Casa del Habano release, as well as the Romeo y Julieta Hermosos No. 1 Edición Limitada 2003 and the Montecristo Dantés Edición Limitada 2016.
A total of 8,888 boxes of 18 cigars are being launched, with a nod to the number 8, which is a lucky number in Chinese culture. Each box presents a palette of red and gold colours, which are not only the colours of Hoyo de Monterrey, but also significant colours in Chinese culture, as red symbolises good fortune and joy, while yellow or gold symbolises wealth.
